Winds of Promise

Joel Jaqubino

November 1, 2018

This freshman release from Orange County's Winds of Promise is a breath of fresh air. A welcomed divergence from a formulaic structure of many of the releases for the past year. Nelson's signature vocal styling rings throughout as a reminder of Hardcore's formative years. Comprised of a who's who of hardcore veterans, the band features singer Joe Nelson (Ignite, Triggerman, The Killing Flame), drummer Pat Longrie (Uniform Choice, Unity), bassist Mike Kenyon, and guitarist Joe D. Foster (Unity, Ignite, Speak 714, LastLight). this LP leaves nothing on the table. Melodic throughout, but delivering punch after punch. Songs written is such a way that you can see the pile-ons and sing-alongs in your head.

As is signature of Joe Nelon's previous lyrics, he touches on political and social issues and leaves no question where he comes from. The guitars are crisp and catchy with the bass reminiscent of Fugazi with a great groove. Tied all together by Longrie's drumming, there is not a bad track to be found. You want violins, they have violins. Looking forward to some live shows and hopefully a follow up release.

Disclaimer: Joe Nelson is a contributor this this site but had no clue I was reviewing this as our initial music review.
